In the activity-based English paper I understand the passage but lose marks in the grammar and personal response activities. How to improve?
The HSC English paper is activity-based, so marks depend on doing exactly what each activity asks. Read the instruction word carefully: complete, match, find, or give your views, and answer in that exact format rather than writing a generic paragraph. For global understanding and interpretation activities, frame answers in full sentences using words from the passage where relevant. For grammar activities like do as directed, revise the common transformations (voice, direct-indirect, tenses, degrees of comparison) since these are predictable and fully scoring with practice. For personal response and creative activities, write a short, clear, relevant response with correct grammar rather than a long vague one. Practise the prescribed activity types from previous papers since the structure repeats. Neat presentation, correct spelling and staying on the asked task are what convert understanding into full marks.
