The Preamble is called the soul of the Constitution because, though short, it states the core values and aims of the entire document in a single paragraph. It declares the source of authority ('We, the People of India'), showing the Constitution comes from the people, not a ruler. It states the nature of the state (Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic) and the objectives (Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity). It is called an identity card because, like an ID, it tells you at a glance what kind of country India wants to be. Courts use the Preamble to understand the spirit behind specific articles when their meaning is unclear. So while it may not directly grant rights, it guides how the whole Constitution should be read and interpreted.
